New original handmade watercolor painting about the Pena Palace in Sintra Portugal.
I never forget my first visit to this beautiful colorful palace, walking up on the path to the gates, looking up to the exquisite architecture thinking I just arrived to a magical place.
Near Lisbon, you can find one of the seven wonders of Portugal, and one of the 10 places in world that look like they belong to a fairy tale.
On the highest peaks of the Serra de Sintra in Portugal, stands the spectacular palace of Pena, an eclectic medley of architectural styles built in the 19th century for the husband of the young Queen Maria II, Ferdinand. In Portugal he was known as Dom Fernando II. the Artist King, because he loved art, nature, and the new inventions of the time. He was himself a watercolour painter, and devoted himself in his live patronizing arts.
For Pena Castle Ferdinand appointed a German architect, to build his summer palace filled with oddities from all over the World. His lifelong dream was to create this enchanting, extravagant place, which was finished in the year he died.
I hope you will enjoy my newest watercolor painting,about the bright colours and atmosphere of the palace, which today is open for tourists who are amazed of visiting a truth fairy-tale place.
