Description
A watercolor painting about the Funicular Bica in Lisbon, Portugal.
Lisbon has three elevadors, the three lifts are called: Elevador do Lavra, Elevador da Glória and Elevador da Bica.
This vintage elevator of the Bica was build in the nineteenth century, helping in public transportation in the steepest hills of Bairro Alto and Bica Neighbourhoods. Interesting that funicular was originally worked by water counterbalancing system, which means that they load the cars with water on the top of the hill, untill it was heavy enough to descend, and pull up the other car from the bottom. Then became steam powered, and only after electrified, like the famous trams of Lisbon.
The funicular ascends the picturesque hills between Rua de São Paulo and Largo do Calhariz via Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo with full of old buildings, little corner shops, restaurants in the typical neighbourhood of the old Lisbon.
Original painting sold from my Karavella Atelier Etsy Shop, prints available in Different sizes.
