Sintra Praia Da Ursa in Portugal painting by Dora Hathazi Mendes.
My new handmade watercolor painting about one of the most beautiful beaches near Lisbon.
The name Ursa comes from the so-called bear rock, one of two giant rocks in the sea that they say are in the shape of a bear with her cub, viewing from the north.
By the legend, during the ice age, many thousands of years ago, a bear lived here with her cubs. When the thaw began, the Gods ordered all the animals to leave the place, but the bear disobeyed and wanted to stay. As punishment, the gods turned her into stone and her children into small rocks around her.
I hope you will enjoy my newest watercolor painting,about this beautiful beach on a sunny day with turquoise coloured waves of the ocean.
