Description
Kingfisher by Dora Hathazi Mendes. Kingfishers are one of the most beautiful birds on Earth ! With their amazingly colored feathers, and unique characters they are truth mesmerizing creatures. No wonder they inspired many people in European and African art and culture ... In some places some believe these birds are displayers of the invisible world. In Congo they show to the hunters where the Elephants can be found, or in Gambia farmers has the signal from the bird for the start of the wet season.
In our short one year stay in Malawi, we woke up every single morning for the same scene . A solitary, silent, Grey Headed Kingfisher, still as a statue was sitting on our balcony fence... Just waiting, observing. I could watch him during hours, he didn't move, and only with doing exactly nothing, he just fixed me there, I was hypnotized, just wanted to be with him, just waiting, watching.
One little thing, I really missed when we left Africa... our Kingfisher on our balcony.
On my painting I introduce the one of the nicest species , the Common Kingfisher, or with other name River Kingfisher (Alchedo Atthis ) in beautifully decorated Art Nouveau style frame which hopefully mesmerise you too !
