Description

My new painting about a picturesque view of the Azores in the Sao Miguel Island, Sete Cidades, which features the serene lake called Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul, surrounded by lush green hills with clusters of vibrant blue hydrangeas in the foreground. The sky is partly cloudy with hints of sunlight casting a gentle glow over the landscape.

Hydrangeas, or with other name Hortensia, this gorgeous huge flower became a symbol of Portugal's Azores islands, as every summer, they are blooming with abundancy on the fertile volcanic soil of the islands. The bushes in shades of blue, pink, purple and white are the part of the scenery, and although originally not native there, for instance Faial nicknamed as the Blue Island due to their beauty.

The name of Lake Blue and Green, comes from the colors differ depending on the depth and concentration of algae in the ponds. But the legend says about the Sete Cidades the story of a blue-eyed princess who fallen in love with a green-eyed shepherd and they would always meet by a lake. The King wanted his daughter to marry a prince and not a poor shepherd so forbid the relation. When last time the broken hearted princess met with her lover at the lake, the farewell was so sad that the blue and green tears filled two ponds.
